Anderson County is located in East Tennessee, one of the states three “grand divisions”, and was established on November 6, 1801, from parts of Knox and Grainger Counties. The county is named after Tennessee Senator Joseph Anderson (1757-1837), U.S. senator, judge of the Superior Court of the Territory South of the River Ohio (later Tennessee) and U.S. comptroller of the treasury.
The county seat is Clinton. Other cities in Anderson County are Andersonville, Briceville, Devonia, Lake City, Norris, Oak Ridge, and Oliver Springs.
